The slow trading environment continued this week with traders either starting to return from vacation, on vacation, or doing small volume business while waiting for the vacations to end and orders to flow in.

U.S.

The New York market is slowly opening up and people are returning from the break. While physical trading activity levels have been passive due to the vacation, orders for August and the beginning of the season have been coming in.

Overall, traders and retailers hold an optimistic outlook when the market resumes. In the current orders, requests are for goods up to one carat in SI+ qualities as well as 1.00-2.00 cts in VS / D-J colors. Additionally, 2.00-4.00 cts goods in D-K colors are amongst those requests for August.

Ramat Gan

The Israeli diamond market remained very slow this week, on the verge of closing. A few traders here say they would continue to work, as the slow trading environment provides its own business opportunities. A number of buyers arrived in the market, looking for well priced goods. Much to their disappointment, they did not find the bargains they hoped to find.
