Auction of Large Pink, Blue Diamonds May Signify Investors' Return

This 9.27ct, fancy vivid pink, VVS1 emerald-cut diamond is expected to fetch $1.4-$2.1 million p/c at Sothbey's in Hong Kong

(IDEX Online News) – Are we about to witness a return of record breaking bids by collectors for diamonds at auctions? Later this week, Sotheby's is auctioning a 9.27-carats fancy vivid pink emerald-cut diamond at a sale that will likely attract collectors that have not seen such stones auctioned for a while.

Collectors and dealers a like have paid top prices for exceptional diamonds at auctions in Hong Kong, repeatedly setting record prices. After a period that included many offerings, in the recent past the arena was relatively quiet.

The upcoming auction may mark a return to high bids, especially as collectors keep looking for alternative investment venues.

The diamond is the top priced item at Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite to be held in Hong Kong on October 5.

The rare VVS1 clarity pink diamond is carrying a pre-sale estimate price of $12.8-$19.2 million. The diamond is set in a platinum and 18-karat pink gold ring, flanked on each side by a trapeze-shaped diamond together weighing approximately 1.60 carats.

The pink diamond's estimate represents a per carat price of $1.4-$2.1 million.

Alongside the 9.27 carats pink, Sotheby's is also offering a 6.01-carats fancy vivid blue diamond estimated at $9-$10.9 million and a 39.99-carats pear-shaped white diamond, among many other exceptional diamonds.
