IGI and GemShield Gemstone/Jewelry Protection Initiative
May 24, 06
The International Gemological Institute (IGI) is working with GemShield, a specialized personal jewelry insurance provider, to offer consumers the opportunity to insure their IGI graded gemstones and/or jewelry products against loss, theft and damage for 7.5 percent to 12.5 percent lower premiums than insuring any other lab graded product.
GemShield understands the enhanced value of an IGI graded diamond as well as the added security of an IGI LaserscribedSM diamond, if it is lost or stolen. As such, the discount is permanent and will remain on the policy for future renewals.
If an item is lost or stolen, the consumer simply fills out the appropriate insurance forms and includes a copy of the IGI report for a 7.5 percent discount off GemShield’s rate card. In order for the consumer to receive a 12.5 percent discount, the diamond must be IGI graded, IGI LaserscribedSM and registered in IGI’s Registration & Recovery ServiceSM.
Unlike a standard homeowner’s policy that may require the use of a jeweler they don’t know, if a loss, theft or damage occurs, GemShield assures consumers they can work with their jeweler to replace or repair the item where the jewelry was originally purchased.
“We at IGI are elated to be at the forefront of this revolutionary initiative. We pride ourselves on being both a resource for the industry as well as a consumer advocate and feel this exclusive program is a win-win for retailers and consumers alike,” stated IGI President and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald, GG, ASA.
