Hole-in-Wall Gang Grab $1m Jewelry
August 08, 24
(IDEX Online) - A gang posing as construction workers cut a hole in the wall of a US jewelry store and emptied display cases of goods worth at least $1m.
They entered Marquise Jewelers, at a mall in Schaumburg, Illinois, through the drywall shared with an adjacent empty unit.
The break-in was discovered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, 2 August by a construction worker who spotted the hole.
"These are trained professionals. These are not people that planned overnight," owner Asma Anwar told the FOX 32 Chicago news channel.
The suspects - believed to be five or six-strong - reportedly cut through the walls of three other businesses to get to the jewelry store. They were seen dressed as construction workers on surveillance cameras.
"We are small business owners. We are not a corporation. It going to take us a long time to recover, if we can," Anwar told Chicago's Daily Herald.
