March 30, 25
(IDEX Online) - A forgetful exhibitor reportedly returned from a jewelry exhibition in Hong Kong to mainland China - leaving red diamonds worth over HK$2m ($250,000) on a table in the lobby of an hotel.
The unnamed dealer removed two red diamonds from a silver box and placed them on a marble table at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel (pictured) in Wan Chai, on Hong Kong's northern shore, according to local news website Dimsumdaily Hong Kong.
The exhibitor arrived home late vesterday (29 March), realized the diamonds were missing and contacted the hotel, as well as friends, to search for them.
Hotel staff found the box, but did not initially find the diamonds because of the dim lighting.
Police say it has been filed as a "misunderstanding" rather than a crime.
