(IDEX Online) - A high-ranking lawyer at the Attorney General's Office, in Arizona, USA, has been accused of stealing a diamond bracelet from a package that was delivered in error to her home, and of selling it online.
Vanessa Hickman, aged 49, reportedly received a package on 31 May - containing $40,000 of jewelry - that was intended for her neighbor in Phoenix.
Prosecutors allege she removed a Costco bracelet worth $2,400, which she then listed on her account on Poshmark, a social commerce marketplace.
It sold for $750, less than a third of its value.
The package was only passed on to her neighbor more than a month later, on 3 July, after postal inspectors intervened. It was the that the necklace was found to be missing.
Hickman, also known as Dailey, resigned on 17 November as division chief for the state government division in the Arizona Attorney General's Office after the AG's office learned of the US Postal Inspection Service investigation.
She was arrested on 19 November and is charged with trafficking stolen property and theft.
