(IDEX Online) - An employee has been charged with stealing over $100,000 worth of jewelry items from the store where she worked in Miami's jewelry district.
Nubia Milena Torres-Cubillos, aged 45, allegedly stole high-value gold links from a broken Cuban link bracelet, as well as many other items, which she then pawned for a fraction of their true value.
Among them were an 18K yellow gold Van Cleef style bracelet, pawned for $400 and a 10K yellow gold tennis bracelet, pawned for $500.
The thefts allegedly took place between June and August.
Torres-Cubillos, a Colombian national, was caught on surveillance cameras moving items around in a store room, allegedly to cover her tracks and conceal the thefts.
She has been charged with grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, marketing of stolen property, and acting as a secondhand dealer without verification of ownership.
She was arrested on 9 September but interest in the case resurfaced after the recent release of surveillance footage.
