"Angel Cut" Diamonds for Jacob & Co's $3.4m Watch
March 23, 26
(IDEX Online) - Jacob & Co, the US ultra‑luxury watch brand, has launched a $3.4m timepiece set with its newly patented "Angel Cut" diamonds.
There are 216 of them in the Billionaire Double Tourbillon - Angel Cut, each cut with a distinctive lozenge‑shaped table and 37 facets.
Jacob & Co. founder Jacob Arabo chose that number to mark 37 years of marriage to his wife Angela.
The watch, in a limited edition of 18, features a total of 297 carats, including 216 Angel Cut diamonds weighing 80.06 carats and additional non‑Angel Cut stones.
The proprietary Angel Cut sits between traditional step‑cut stones (like emerald or baguette), which preserve more rough weight but show less fire, and classic brilliant‑cut rounds that are very bright but lose a lot of material.
Jacob & Co describes it as "more versatile, more luminous, more luxurious."
The 37‑facet layout is engineered so light is directed and reflected in a controlled, flowing way, reducing dead‑looking "extinction" areas typical of flat‑top step cuts.
Jacob & Co has become a watch brand of choice for billionaires. This new timepiece is priced at the lower end, compared with the label's most expensive watch, the Billionaire Timeless Treasure. It is set with 216.89 carats of fancy yellow and fancy intense yellow diamonds, and costs $20m.
