immersive industry visit for its students to the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), Mumbai the
epicenter of India's diamond trade, along with leading companies including Hari Krishna
Exports Pvt. Ltd., Kisna Diamond & Gold Jewellery, Finestar Diamonds, Kiran Gems, and
Arham Exports.
At a time when the jewellery industry demands professionals who can think beyond textbooks,
IIG has long championed a learning model that goes far beyond syllabus-based instruction. The
institute believes that true industry readiness lies in a combination of structured learning,
observation, interaction, and real-world exposure.
This visit was designed to bridge that gap.
At Hari Krishna Exports Pvt. Ltd., students engaged with Mr. Hitarth Dholakia, who shared
grounded insights on current market realities. He encouraged students to focus on excellence at
their level while highlighting a critical entrepreneurial mindset as they grow, the ability to
delegate to skilled experts becomes equally important. He left them with a powerful takeaway:
"Learning individuals are earning individuals."
At Kiran Gems, students had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Dinesh Lakhani, whose
perspective reinforced the importance of industry-academia collaboration. "At Kiran Gems, we
truly believe in sharing knowledge and supporting the next generation of our industry. It was a
pleasure interacting with the students of IIG. Their curiosity and genuine interest in
understanding the diamond trade were very encouraging. IIG is doing a commendable job in
connecting classroom learning with real-world exposure," he shared.
At Finestar Diamonds, Mr. Nilesh Chhabria provided a macro view of the industry, discussing
the impact of U.S. tariffs and broader global challenges. He highlighted how Finestar continues
to stay ahead through focused niche specialization in larger diamonds (3 to 10 carats), offering
students a strategic lens on positioning in a competitive market.
At Arham Exports, led by Mr. Vidhyut Shah, students gained insights into the operational
backbone of the industry, from precision in grading to procurement strategies in melee
diamonds. The company's ability to consistently supply to 350- 400 jewellers across India and
international markets demonstrated the importance of systems, scale, and reliability.
Adding a strong retail dimension, students also engaged with Kisna through insights shared by
Mr. Parag Shah, bringing perspective on branding, distribution, and how diamonds ultimately
translate into consumer-facing products.
Beyond individual organizations, the visit to Bharat Diamond Bourse helped students witness
the scale, structure, and operational excellence of one of the world's largest diamond trading
hubs, offering insights into security systems, trade dynamics, and the ecosystem that powers
the global diamond pipeline.
"This visit was truly an eye-opener. Seeing the entire journey of a diamond in real time, from
design to execution, helped us connect everything we've learned in class. Interacting with
industry leaders and understanding how different departments work together gave us a
completely new perspective on how the industry actually functions," said a student from
Zimbabwe; Mr. Tapiwa Chidzodzo, reflecting on the experience.
