8.7% Hike in India's Polished Exports

July 27, 26 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - India's exports of natural polished diamonds were up 8.7% to $847 million in June, following on from the first return to growth this year in May (up 3.3%).

It signals a possible recovery after the 19.6% decline in April, as exporters seek out markets beyond the US, such as the UAE, UK, Europe.

Overall exports of all gems and jewelry surged 26.5%, according to the latest figures from GJEPC (India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council), largely driven by robust demand for gold jewelry and for lab‑growns which saw foreign sales soar by more than 52% to $101.35 million during the month.

Exports of natural polished diamond sales saw significant growth in June because of the base effect (a poor performance in June 2025) but actual sales were lower than May ($980.7 million).

Retailers cut orders last year and pushed down prices by working through old stock, but they now they need fresh goods again, so new orders are lifting exports.

Diamond demand was unusually weak last year because of high interest rates, inflation, and cautious luxury spending, especially in the US and China.
