First KP Certificate Issued

In a short friendly ceremony in the import / export room in the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), the first Kimberley Process certificate was issued yesterday.

At 1 pm, IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer, IDMA President Uri Schwartz, WDC President Eli Izhakoff, Diamond Controller Udi Sheintal met to witness the issuing of the very first Kimberley Process certificate to a parcel of rough, en route to Belgium.

The representative of a big Israeli diamond dealer, slightly over whelmed by the attention, presented the package of rough, its contents was examined, and the certificate was filled, signed, stamped and sealed.

As the rest of the diamond centers enjoyed a New Years vacation, the IDE was working. The big smiles and handshakes marked the launch of a new, and perhaps controversial, era in the diamond industry.
