Rebels Take Control of Bangui
March 16, 03Rebels, led by General Francois Bozize, have captured Bangui, the capital city of the Central African Republic. Parfait Mbaye, a spokesman for the rebels read a statement on the state-owned radio, written by Bozize, saying they control the city.
General Bozize was fired from the army and for the past two years has made several attempts to take control of the diamond-rich country. President Ange-Felix Patasse was out of the country during the coup.
