HK Fair Jewelry Trends and Predictions
September 18, 03At a presentation titled “The Latest Jewellery Design Trend”, the coming fall and winter 2003-2004 styles were the hot topic. Wilson Lau and Christie Dang, editors at Jewellery News Asia, say that big is the name of the game.
The big jewelry is coming into town despite a hurting economy. The way around the economic woes is the use of low weight and open work designs and creating a large volume presence by using a many small stones.
This is not to say that big stones are out – expect to see them in lightweight materials like rubber and various kinds of bright and colorful plastics.
Another trend that is expected to continue is drooping pendants and a combination of 2 or more shapes.
Lau and Dang say the trend in materials is pearls and diamonds set in unique materials like rubber, leather and plastic. Mixing titanium and steel is a very popular combination, and yellow gold is prominent as ever - especially combined with white gold, platinum or steel – letting the contrast make the design.
What else is in store? Nature designs – naive themes, natural beauty, flowers, leaves, animals – will be used often and geometrical shapes and simple designs emphasizing contrast
Keep an eye for mixed color gem stone combinations influenced by Madagascar designs.
