Russian Parliament Declassifies Gem, Metals Data
October 21, 03To keep pace with the Kimberley Process, and the required transparency it demands, the Russian parliament has amended the state secrets law to declassify data about precious metals and gemstones mined in the country.
The change will allow for full compliance with KP requirements by Russia. However legislators only went as far as these requirements demand – information about imports and exports – and not allow for the disclosure of all information, notably diamond reserves held by the state repository, the Gokhran.
