Australia’s Flinders Hoping for Big Diamond Find
February 04, 04Australian Flinders Diamonds says it hopes exploration work it is about to start in the state of South Australia will lead to the state's next significant diamond find.
The Adelaide-based company will begin searching for diamonds at Euralia, near Carrieton, next month.
Flinders’ Managing Director Kevin Wills says an independent review recommended the company abandon its search for diamonds in the Flinders Ranges and focus instead on the mid-north.
Wills said a number of kimberlite sheets, which can contain diamonds, were found in the area in the 1980s and that the company is confident of finding more.
“We could see the kimberlites that they found on our magnetic image, but we could also see a number of other similar features,” he said.
“We expect that there are more kimberlites there to find and we hope some of those might have economic concentrations of diamonds.”
