Leviev Gets New Namibian Mining Rights
February 05, 04Months after the court was closing in on Namco, Leviev apparently made a major move in Namibia after reputedly signing an agreement on Tuesday with the government, giving one of his companies diamond mining rights in the country.
The Leviev Group estimates the Namibian concessions have at least 12 million carats with an average value of $100 - $160 per carat. It estimates the value of the deal at about $1.56 billion in rough diamonds, Reuters' reports.
According to the report, Sakawe Mining Corp. (formerly Samicor) got 13 offshore mining licenses and 23 exploration licenses that total 14,000 square kilometers (5,405 square miles).
