Fall Fashion: Designers Fall For Diamonds
February 09, 04Just ahead of New York's Olympus Fashion Week, when fashion designers unveil their fall collections, it looks like diamonds will be more prominent then before with insiders expecting to see over $40 million worth of diamond jewelry parading on the runways.
Every seasoned fashion connoisseur knows to keep out an open eye not just for clothes designs, but also for what accessories the designers choose to add to them. During this year’s fall fashion shows, designers will adorn their looks with some of the hottest diamond designs.
From diamond right-hand rings to pendant-style earrings to one-of-a-kind brooches styled in unexpected places, some legendary diamond houses, including Oscar Heyman and Louis Glick as well as several dynamic new jewelry designers (Coomi, Bruce Hoeksema for VBH and Zingale), will debut on the runways.
In support of American Heart Month, 25 top designers will present original gowns to raise awareness of women's heart disease. The annual "Red Dress Collection" will underscore its charitable theme with heart-shaped diamonds from Louis Glick, Martin Katz and William Goldberg Diamonds.
So if you are wondering what to expect on the runways, here is a quick list:
Baby Phat - Expect a dramatic diamond statement from designer Kimora Lee Simmons.
Badgley Mischka - The design duo's gilded eveningwear will be coupled with red carpet-worthy diamonds by celebrity favorite Martin Katz.
Behnaz Sarafpour - Sarafpour will accent her fall collection with breathtaking diamond right-hand rings set in oxidized gold by Bruce Hoeksema for VBH.
Carmen Marc Valvo - The designer will celebrate his 15th Anniversary with a diamond-studded collection. Look for stunning diamond brooches, earrings and right-hand rings from Louis Glick, Zingale and Oscar Heyman.
Chaiken - Designer Jeff Mahchie will feature Oscar Heyman's stacked diamond right-hand rings and award-winning diamond brooches.
Cynthia Steffe - Look for one-of-a-kid diamond designs from New York's Kentshire Galleries.
Heatherette - This downtown favorite will make a major diamond statement in collaboration with Jacob the Jeweler.
J. Mendel - The designer will collaborate with the legendary diamond House of Cartier to create a modern vision of glamour.
Matthew Williamson - The British sensation and current Young Hollywood favorite will partner his gauzy print gowns with Indian-inspired diamonds from newcomer Coomi.
Oscar de la Renta - The designer and longtime collaborator Fred Leighton will again partner to create on a sumptuous display of diamonds on the runway.
Ralph Lauren - Watch for a dramatic diamond statement from the designer synonymous with luxury and opulence.
Sebastian Pons - One of Vogue's heralded "New Guard," the designer will accessorize his hotly anticipated sophomore collection with couture diamond designs by Hearts on Fire.
Zac Posen - Posen's unabashed love of glamour will find expression in exquisite diamond right-hand rings and surprising diamond accents, courtesy of Fred Leighton.
Zang Toi - Expect one of the most heart-stopping finale looks of the season in collaboration with diamond designer-of-the-moment Lorraine E. Schwartz.
