DTC Price Hike Felt Most in Indian Goods
March 25, 04The five percent price increase announced by De Beers prior to Sight 3 hid a double-digit price hike on smaller goods, commonly referred to as Indian goods. According to sources, these goods saw a 10-11 percent leap.
Sightholders returning from this week’s Sight reported that prices were also high on the larger goods. 5-10 carat goods were up 7-8 percent, the 2.5-4 boxes increased 6 percent, while the 3+/spotted goods increased by about 7 percent.
3 to 6 grainers SI goods increased 5 percent, the pique goods are up 6 percent and VS goods edged up a more modest 2-3 percent. But the stinger came with the 2 grainers with an estimated 10 to 11 percent leap.
That being said, DTC goods are still priced below outside goods, leaving Sightholders with handsome premiums. The Sight is estimated at $600 - $650 million.
