SouthernEra Wins Congo Mining Permits
May 23, 04Canadian miner SouthernEra Resources Ltd has been awarded 41 permits to explore for diamonds in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
SouthernEra said the permits focus on the historic diamond-mining center in the Kasai-Oriental province.
The province produced up to 20 million carats of diamonds annually in the mid-1980s, and has produced two of the top 10 largest gem quality diamonds in the world.
SouthernEra said it would intensify its diamond exploration in the area and hoped to begin drill testing by year-end.
The company also explores for diamonds in Canada, Congo, Gabon, Australia, South Africa and Botswana, produces platinum group metals and has a gold exploration program.
