Diavik Diamond Mine (DDMI) contributed $5,000 to help kick off the United Way of Yellowknife's 2005 fundraising campaign. Diavik employees helped mark the start of the United Way's local campaign with a fund-raiser luncheon at the company's offices in Yellowknife.
“Diavik is taking a leadership role and has a lot of creative fundraising events planned. We're thrilled with Diavik's participation,” said United Way of Yellowknife President Patrick Perraud.
Last year DDMI contributed $10,250 to the United Way through corporate and employee donations. Diavik's goal over the coming year is to reach $15,000.
The United Way is a volunteer organization, which provides funds for various charities. The Yellowknife chapter's goal for this, their third fundraising campaign, is $100,000. Donators can direct their contributions to registered local charities of their choice. Unspecified donations go to a general fund, which the United Way of Yellowknife allocates locally.
DDMI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto.
