Debswana on Target to Record Output
December 09, 04Mining firm Debswana said today (Thursday) that despite the setbacks it has faced this year, it is set to smash its own record diamond production of 30 million carats.
“We have had a very good fourth quarter and although it is not over yet indications are showing that we will surpass last year’s record of 30.4 million carats,” said Debswana’s Corporate Communications Manager, Kabelo Binns. “We are now forecasting a figure around 30.9 million carats.”
Among challenges Debswana has had to overcome this year are heavy rains that caused major delays and an illegal strike which also threatened to slow down production in the third quarter.
“This result will once again ensure that Botswana will remain the number one diamond mining nation by both the value it produces and the quantity it produces. “We should all be very proud of this great company,” Binns concluded.
