CIBJO Aims to Harmonize Gemological Lab Standards

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, is pushing for the harmonization of standards among gemological laboratories. The move follows the last two CIBJO congresses in Munich and Bangkok, where CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri and others expressed their wish to broaden and strengthen the network of CIBJO-registered laboratories.

Laboratories wanting to be a candidate must be supported and presented by the appropriate national trade organisation that is affiliated with CIBJO to guarantee that the candidate laboratory is well recognised by the local trade that it serves.

Laboratories may be registered in one of five categories. These are: Diamond Grading, Coloured Diamond Identification, Pearl Identification, Coloured Gemstone Identification, Coloured Gemstone Identification and Origin Opinion.

Up to now, registration has been offered only in the Diamond Grading category.
