When a potential client decides on buying a jewelry item – what exactly is she most likely interested in? A ring or earrings? Is it made of gold, platinum or silver? Set with a diamond, diamonds or some other gem? Keep on reading for a surprising answer.

A recent data mining expedition on eBay, the world’s largest auction website, reveals some interesting information. For instance, silver, gold, ring and rings are among the websites' 10 most popular searches today, placed 5 – 8, respectively.
In the Jewelry & Watch category, the term ‘diamond’ is only in sixth place however.
Google, the hottest search engine and an evolved community, says jewelry, diamonds, ring, gold, etc were not among the most searched terms in 2004 (four women take the top spots: 1. Britney Spears, 2. Paris Hilton, 3. Christina Aguilera, 4. Pamela Anderson, followed by ‘chat’).

In Froogle, Google’s shopping search engine, the top search term among popular brand names last year was Louis Vuitton, Tiffany was fifth followed by Rolex, Armani was eighth and Ray-Bans closed the top 10 list.
Conversely, a search for buzz words on Yahoo, the percentage of users searching for a subject on any given day or week, does not show any significant searches during the holiday season.
With the numbers on season sales indicating that online was the best location for a store this year, this is not merely a statistics list. This, of course, is valuable information.
It helps us all decide where we should advertise, we learn what our customers are looking for and who could be great ambassadors for our brands.
