Israel Posts 10% Rise in 2004 Jewelry Exports
January 31, 05Israel exported $385 million of jewelry last year – a 10 percent rise on 2003 but less than the $400 million export figure posted in 2002, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor said in a statement.

Of the exports, 55 percent were gold jewelry, 36 percent were gold jewelry set with diamonds or gemstones, six percent were fashion jewelry while silver jewelry accounted for just three percent of exports.
As with Israel's polished diamond exports, most of the country's jewelry was exported to the United States (68 percent), while 25 percent went to the European market, four percent went to the Far East and three percent to other areas.

Meanwhile, exports of fashion jewelry continued to rise last year with a 20 percent increase on 2003, said Sigal Shidlovsky, who is responsible for the jewelry industry at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor.
