If you thought babies born with silver spoons in their mouths was bad enough, then what about infants sporting sapphires and diamonds?

No longer will a cashmere baby blanket or a silver rattle suffice, we are now talking about earrings with emeralds costing close to $300, birth diamond necklaces costing more than $600 or a pink sapphire tennis bracelet retailing for more than $1,600.
Among the leading names in this new trend is American firm BabyGund, with necklaces, bracelets and earrings retailing at hundreds and thousands of dollars. The signature of the BabyGund jewelry is the Gund logo, a bear head, found on many of the pieces. A miniature gold signet ring for babies in the shape sells for $225.
Designer David Yurman in his Cable Kids collection has created, literally, a silver spoon, although of a somewhat different design and quality than what most people imagine the utensil in the proverb to look like.
And no longer will toddlers place their teeth under their pillows for the tooth fairy to come and collect, since Yurman also produces a silver tooth box in addition to bracelets and tiny rings.
And assuming the kiddies' parents continue to have plenty of cash to throw at jewelry for their offspring, then they could emulate Brooklyn Beckham, son of soccer star David and singer Victoria.
