Web Review: www.NiceIce.com
July 02, 05 By Gil Galanti “We’re fluent in engineer, rocket scientist, software designer, doctor, lawyer, computer programmer, accountant, architect, professor, nerd, and yes, even geek As a matter of fact, we speak geek! Can you say (Ideal) 3tm and (H~A) 2tm Ideal Cut Diamonds?”
In addition, Niceice.com also contains detailed “education” (“a dangerous combination of the most in-depth diamond grading information available to the public, satirical wit sparked by the marvels of human behavior”) and even offers its “Pre-Profit Diamond Cost Report”, described as the "Little Black Book of Diamond Prices", for $14.95.
Usually, this column is about what we define at IDEX Online as ‘well-tailored websites’. Yet, niceice.com is quite different in those terms due to its, how shall I put it, somewhat old-fashioned attitude. The homepage, for example, is “over-texted”. My Word program counted 1,455 words, not including the navigation links on the left bar. Nevertheless, I still find this website interesting, mainly for its primary claim of actually owning the diamonds it offers - an obsolescent phenomenon in today's online diamond industry.
With strict selection criteria which “goes beyond the parameters” of what we know as “AGS-000” and “GIA Ideal Cut”, niceice.com claims to house an exclusive inventory of Ideal Cut diamonds available for immediate delivery. In addition, none of these stones is available from any other dealer worldwide. Sound obvious? Not according to niceice.com.
This site goes out of its way to emphasize the fact it does not consist of “the same washed out generic list” of “virtual diamonds” used by “those other guys who are spraying it all over the web”. For some reason, the people behind niceice.com have chosen a bit of a negative way of making their point. Nevertheless, I am afraid their point is valid in some cases.
