After several years of supporting Nakshatra, the DTC decided earlier this year that those Sightholders continuing to participate in the venture were best placed to maximize the brand’s potential in the longer term. Therefore, the participating Sightholders – Dimexon, Mahendra Brothers and Digico – founded a company, Brightest Circle Jewellery (Private) Limited, with the intention of eventually taking over full ownership of the Nakshatra brand.
Under the agreement, Brightest Circle has been granted an exclusive license to use the Nakshatra brand, and has an option to purchase it from DTC.
Varda Shine, DTC Sales Director, said at the ceremony in London, “This is an historic day for the DTC and further validation of the success of the DTC’s strategy to grow consumer demand. Nakshatra has been a marketing success story since its launch in September 2000 and has won a number of prestigious advertising awards over the past few years. It’s the number one brand in India, inspiring people to buy diamond jewelry. We are delighted to see that Nakshatra – a brand that we have nurtured - will continue in such capable hands.”
Speaking on behalf of Brightest Circle, Mehul Choksi, Chairman Gitanjali Group (Digico), added, “It is indeed an historic moment. Nakshatra has been a market maker for diamonds in India and it is a very successful program and we are very keen to take it further and to make it a super brand in India. It is a privilege for us to be able to take over the rights to the brand and we are grateful to the DTC for allowing this to happen.”
