DTC Sight 6: Improved Assortments Reduce Rough Diamond Prices
July 20, 06The Diamond Trading Company (DTC) has improved assortments on many of its boxes, de facto lowing prices on goods. Sightholders are estimating an average improvement of 5 percent at the sixth Sight of the year.
Prices of white goods are estimated to be down 2 percent-3 percent, and Indian goods by at least 10 percent. Opinion is divided over improvements in boxes of ‘color’ goods. Some say there was a small improvement; others that there was no significant change.
Prices of big stones, which are currently in strong demand, reportedly increased slightly.
Following De Beers Managing Director Gareth Penny's announcement last month, no ex-plan was supplied, even to those who requested it.
While price improvement is a move that many in the market have yearned for, some Sightholders expressed concern that the cut did not go far enough. One Sightholder said an additional 10 percent reduction is needed to allow profitability.
The Sight is estimated at $570 - $600 million
