The fall in June figures, following a 5.6 percent value decline in May, means that there has been an overall decline of 6.4 percent in the value of imports since January. Imports in the first half of the year totaled $550 million on a total weight of 1,347,579 carats, which is an increase of 2.7 percent over 2005 figures.
With imports of 154,127 carats worth $34.77 million at an average of $225.59 per carat,
With an average price of $2,490.79, the highest average per carat value came from Russia.
