EGL USA Says It Can Detect Synthetics Accurately

Gem lab EGL USA says it developed a new and more accurate system for detecting lab made diamonds. The system, Cross-Reference Identification System (CIS), is particularly valuable in detecting small synthetic yellow diamonds of 0.01 to 0.06 carats, mounted in jewelry.
EGL USA’s Gem Identification and Research department developed CIS, which is based on consolidating and connecting all analytical instruments and techniques into one comprehensive tool.
CIS uses advanced testing with a deep ultraviolet (UV) source, supported by XRF spectroscopy.
Undisclosed synthetics are an issue that concerns the global diamond industry. EGL USA said in a release that synthetic diamond manufacturers such as Gemesis sell their products with full disclosure, but advised buyers that the only way to ensure they are buying natural diamonds is to have them graded by a reputable gem lab.
