Some Price Hikes at DTC Sight
March 27, 07The Diamond Trading Company has raised prices on a number of its boxes, mostly ‘Indian’ goods. The boxes - certain spotted, mix gems, 3-8 grainers and brown rejections - traded recently on the open market with high premiums.
Viewed mostly as a reaction to the premiums, the DTC raised prices on the boxes by 2-5 percent. A marginal one percent hike on some items was also reported.
A couple of industry insiders noted some downgrade in box mix, a de facto price hike.
However, while the DTC raised prices, the premiums in the market have mellowed.
The biggest concern among Sightholders these days are the profiles for the next contract period, according to one insider.
At the end of the current contract period, some Sightholders may lose their Sights, dealing a potentially serious blow to their business.
