Stornoway Recovers Largest Diamond Ever Found In Quebec

Stornoway Diamond Corporation announced last week that it had recovered the largest diamond ever found in Quebec. The 7.78 carat stone was recovered at its Renard Project in north-central Quebec, a 50:50 joint venture with Soquem Inc. A 6.09 carat diamond was also recovered from the site.

So far, 624 carats of diamonds have been recovered from a combined dry sample weight of 417 tons from Renard 3, yielding a recovered diamond content of 150 carats per hundred tons (cpht).

Stornoway CEO Eira Thomas said, "The first diamond recovery results from Renard have exceeded our expectations. The cumulative recovered diamond content at Renard 3 is 18 percent higher than previous large scale sampling, and we are encouraged by both the size and quality of the diamonds that have been returned."

The five largest diamonds recovered are 7.78, 6.09, 5.00, 4.19 and 4.13 carats. These stones are described as a near-gem clivage, a colorless gem octahedron, a colorless macle, a light off-color gem octahedron, and a top light brown gem octahedron, respectively.
