JCK New Delhi Concludes With Mixed Responses
July 10, 07
As the JCK New Delhi Show drew to a close, Mike Allsopp, CEO of Reed Exhibitions India, said traffic there had been "high quality" traffic this year. While some exhibitors agreed with him, others noted that they had mostly seen their regular clients throughout the show.
“On the morning of the last day of the show, what we can see is that JCK New Delhi has moved on,” Allsopp told Jewelbiz India. “Attendance has strengthened not only numerically, but reports from the floor indicate that the quality and caliber of the visitors has been at a high level. There’s a great opportunity for JCK to go ahead and create a platform for the North.”
Mandeep Singh, COO of Reed Exhibitions India, said, “The buzz among the trade is that they have seen serious visitors. Forever Jewellery told us that they had seen a good movement of their gold jewelry, Rosy Blue said that they got the customers they wanted. They were not looking for mass.”
However, reactions from the floor indicate that traffic was down with many exhibitors receiving regular clients. Concern over the lack of new customers was continually raised by exhibitors.
Another serious concern stemmed from the show being open to consumer and trade attendees. “To have consumers coming here becomes an area of conflict for us,” said the representative of a leading company, who prefers to remain anonymous. “We would like to concentrate on our B2B business.”
Umesh Desai of Fine Jewellery felt that the response was good and that the potential customers they had met were better than last year. For them, the higher priced sets, bangles and necklaces proved the most popular.
Devang Sangani of Jewelex was also happy with the business they had conducted. He attributed this mainly to the strong performance of the company's specialized products – men’s rings and women's bangles.
In terms of products, the JCK New Delhi saw a preponderance of studded jewelry with diamonds and colored gemstones in a wide variety of designs and price points.
