UN Renews Ivory Coast Diamond Ban

The unanimous resolution plans a review of these measures once the parties have fully implemented the Ouagadougou political agreement and after holding open, free, fair and transparent presidential and legislative elections have been held. The agreement brokered an end to the conflict that had divided Cote d’Ivoire between the rebel-held North and Government-controlled South since 2002.

The Council reiterated its demand that all Ivorian parties provide unhindered access to the group of experts established to monitor sanctions against the country, and extended the mandate of that group for another year.
