Japan Polished Imports Flat in October
December 02, 07Japan imported $90.147 million worth of polished diamonds in October, weighing 266,796 carats. The imports carried an average value of $337.89 per carat. The imports represent a slight growth of 1.5 percent in value and 0.9 percent in volume compared to October 2006.
Imports from India, Japan’s main supplier of polished diamonds, rose 15.1 percent in value to $48.93 million, while imports by volume declined 0.3 percent to 214,085 carats. The average value rose to $229 p/c.
Imports from Belgium declined 10.4 percent to $17.84 million, averaging $1,300 p/c. Imports from Israel rose 21.3 percent to $8.86 million, averaging $ $823.72 p/c. In volume, imports from Israel doubled to 10,761 carats.
