Yehuda Diamonds to Fight Blue Nile Price Comparison Lawsuit

In response to a lawsuit filed December 18, 2007 by Blue Nile, Yehuda Diamond Company told a Washington state federal court that it has done nothing wrong in comparing the price and appearance of its clarity-enhanced diamonds to natural, non-enhanced stones sold by the online jewelry retail giant. Blue Nile contends that Yehuda Diamonds’ comparisons are misleading.
In a recently released statement, Yehuda Diamonds said it would fight any action taken by Blue Nile aimed at halting its price comparisons. “Consumers have an absolute right to know how much they stand to save by shopping with us, and we will defend that right vigorously both in court and the marketplace,” Yehuda Diamonds commented.
In its complaint, Blue Nile acknowledged that, while clarity enhancement has the ability to improve a diamond’s apparent clarity, Yehuda Diamonds is misleading customers by making price comparisons against Blue Nile’s non-enhanced, natural diamonds.
Yehuda Diamonds enhances the clarity of diamonds by optically eliminating feathers – naturally occurring imperfections – and sells the stones through brick-and-mortar retail jewelers, in contrast to Blue Nile, which retails exclusively online.
