JTV Launches Fundraiser to Benefit Tanzania Flood Victims

Jewelry Television (JTV) has created a Tanzanian Relief Fund to support people affected by the flooding disasters in the Arusha and Manyara regions of Tanzania. Between April 1 and April 12, the network will donate 2 percent of the purchase price of each tanzanite sale to the American Red Cross (ARC).

The fundraising effort will culminate on JTV’s annual Tanzanite Day, in which tanzanite jewelry and gemstones will be featured for 24 hours. These funds, the network notes, will enable the ARC to support the Tanzania Red Cross Society’s humanitarian relief efforts associated with the flooding and strengthen their capacity to respond to future disasters.

Over 75 miners died and thousands of people were displaced last week when severe flooding hit the tanzanite mines and surrounding areas.

JTV says that it is one of the largest retailers of this rare gemstone and it committed to providing support in response to this disaster.
