More at Less Prevailing Trend for Japan’s Polished Diamond Imports
July 31, 08The trend of importing more and cheaper polished diamonds continued in Japan in June, though to a lesser degree seen in the preceding months.
The average value of June’s imports stood at $422.52 per carat, a year-over-year decrease of more then 11 percent and an increase compared to the value of goods imported earlier in the year.
Imports of 115,369 carats from India totaled $23.22 million, averaging $201 p/c. Belgium shipped 17,351 carats valued at $20.13 million averaging $1,160 p/c.
Japan, the world’s second largest market for polished diamonds has been continually decreasing the value of its diamond imports. In the second quarter of the year, the country increased the volume of imports, pushing the average value down compared to the previous years.
