India’s Polished Diamond Exports Rise 12% in Average Value
August 26, 08India exported $1.322 billion worth of polished diamonds in July, an 11.26 percent year-over-year increase. The country’s exports in volume declined slightly to 3.843 million carats from 3.892 million carats the year before.
India’s polished diamond trade is growing in value while declining in volume, a trend seen in other diamond trading centers, reflecting declining demand for lower quality goods and rising prices.
The average value of exports, $344.00 per carat, rose 12.7 percent over the $305.24 p/c exports a year ago.
In the first four months of the fiscal year India exported polished diamonds to the tune of $5.104 billion.
Exports from India are rising from month to month as well, growing from $1.235 billion worth of goods in previous month, June.
India imported in July $159.2 million in polished diamonds for a total of $2.609 billion in the April-July period.
