IDEX Online Rough Diamond Market Report - Sight 7

IDEX Online is pleased to introduce its first monthly rough diamond market report. The report, released in the week following each Sight, covers demand for core articles the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) offers at its Sights.

A five-step scale is used to denote demand: strong, healthy, moderate, little or no demand. Information about the goods follows the table. Comments, suggestions and questions are welcome.

Rough Diamond Market Report – Sight 7

Demand in the secondary market for key Diamond Trading Company (DTC) boxes in the week following Sight 7 (August 18-22) was mostly lower than that following Sight 6 (July 7-11). One exception is the colored sawable goods, which continued to enjoy healthy demand.

Sight 7 was a large Sight, estimated at about $730 million, perhaps leading to a glut in the market. Sightholders reported that the goods were priced very high, leaving slim margins, and lower demand in the secondary market for key boxes. As a result, premiums on many goods are very low, with some DTC boxes reportedly selling at list price.
