India’s Polished Diamond Exports Tumble 21% in December
January 15, 09India exported $656.08 million worth of polished diamonds in December 2008, according to provisional data published by the Gem & Jewellery Exports Promotion Council. The exports are a 20.9 percent decline in exports compared to December 2007.
2.279 million carats ere exported during the month, shipped with an average declared value of $287.88 per carat.
Imports of polished diamonds rose 26.36 percent to $296.53 million, with 1.4 million carats flowing in. The average value of imports was $211.66 p/c.
Since the start of the fiscal year in April, India’s exports of polished diamonds increased 2.35% to $10.283 billion.
