Venus Jewel Adds Spread / Weight Ratio Parameter to its Grading System
June 07, 09Indian diamond manufacturer Venus Jewel has added a spread / weight ratio parameter to its in-house grading system, known for its very extremely detailed reports. The new parameter is a precise indicator of whether, for a given diameter, a diamond is carrying more or less weight than it ideally should, which in turn will affect its price.
Theoretically, a standard or ideal round brilliant weighing one carat would have a diameter of 6.47milimeter, or a “zero spread.” A negative spread would indicate a diamond weight (in % terms) that was in excess of what it ideally should be, while a positive spread indicates a weight that is less than it should be in relation to a diamond’s diameter.
“Our quest for transparent business practices has resulted in us disclosing this in our Venus Grading Report (VGR),” said Anil D. Shah, partner of Venus Jewel, adding that spread / weight ratio affects a diamond’s appearance and therefore its price.
The company, a Diamond Trading Company (DTC) Sightholder that is also directly supplied by Rio Tinto Diamonds, Harry Winston and BHP Billiton Diamonds, specializes in manufacturing large-sized premium diamonds.
