Vivid Pink Diamond Ring Breaks Records at Christie’s Hong Kong Sale

At US$2.1 million per carat, it has set two auction records - for highest price per carat for a diamond as well as the highest price for a pink diamond.
Bought by a private Asian buyer, the stone sold well above its estimated value of HK$39 million – HK$55 million (US$5 million – US $7 million).
“Eight out of the ten most expensive jewels were acquired by discerning Asian private collectors, confirming once again Hong Kong’s position as a major market for the finest gemstones,” said Vickie Sek, director of Christie’s Asia jewelry and jadeite department.
Overall, 89 percent of the lots were sold, at a total of HK$372 million (US$48 million).
