JA Reiterates Support for RJC Certification Scheme
January 21, 10Jewelers of America (JA) announced its support Wednesday for the Responsible Jewellery Council’s (RJC) newly launched Certification Scheme, a system which will use independent, third-party auditors to certify its members for responsible ethical, social and environmental practices throughout the diamond and gold jewelry supply chain.
Commercial companies seeking RJC membership will be required to undergo the process of obtaining RJC Certification.
“This is not only an important step for RJC members – which include both large and small companies throughout the diamond and gold jewelry supply chains – but for the industry as a whole,” said JA President & CEO Matthew A. Runci. “It represents a move toward better transparency and accountability for businesses in the trade, which will lead to greater consumer trust.”
Runci also serves as RJC’s Chairman of the Board of Directors
The JA was a co-founder of RJC in 2005 and has recently developed an updated Code of Professional Practices that closely aligned with the RJC’s ethical, social and environmental principles.
