WDC to Hold KP ‘Snap Shot’ Panel Discussion at LV Show
May 06, 10 WDC President Eli Izhakoff said the panel discussion would present a current snap shot of the decade-long campaign to eradicate the trade in conflict diamonds, what challenges the Kimberley Process is currently facing and what measures are needed to improve its operation and the situation on the ground. In particular, the panel will look at the new initiatives being undertaken by the Kimberley Process to ensure consumer confidence in the diamond trade. Joining Izhakoff on the panel will be Brad Brooks-Rubin, U.S. State Department; Matt Runci, president of Jewelers of America (JA) and chairman of the board of directors of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RC); Cecilia L. Gardner, president and CEO of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC); Noora Jamsheer of the UN Panel of Experts on Cote D'Ivoire; John Hall, corporate relations manager at Rio Tinto; and representatives of NGOs active in the industry. The discussion will be moderated by Dorothee Gizenga, director of the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI). The panel is part of the educational program of the JCK-Las Vegas Show “Diamond Dialogue - the Kimberley Process and Consumer Confidence,” is scheduled take place on June 3, at the Palazzo Congress Center at the Venetian hotel. It will be sponsored by the Diamond Information Center (DIC).
