U.S. Polished Imports Triple in March
May 13, 10Net polished diamond imports into the U.S. rose by 298.5 percent to $327.7 million in March, underscoring the revival of polished diamond trading in the U.S. Gross imports rose to $1.55 billion, an 84.8 percent year-over-year increase.
By almost any parameter, the March figures indicate healthy diamond activity. Gross imports increased 23 percent compared to February of this year and the average value of imports stood at $1,289.50 per carat, compared to $1,110.34 p/c the year before.
The single negative trend is in net imports by volume. The U.S. exported more than it imported, resulting in a negative trend of 1.4 million carats.
For the quarter, the U.S. imported $4.1 billion worth of goods at an average value of $1,270.57 p/c.
