Diamdel: H1 Competition Strongest for +2 Carat Goods
July 08, 10The De Beers subsidiary Diamdel reported strong demand in the second quarter of 2010. One hundred and fifty seven lots were offered from April to June, of which 95 percent were sold. In the previous quarter, Diamdel sold all of the 138 lots that it tendered.

The goods on offer in the second quarter spanned the -3gr, 3-8gr and 2-15ct size ranges, with more than two thirds of bids won by small- to medium-scale manufacturers.
“Strong results have been driven by strong participation. We have continued to see a full market in operation during Q2 with broad-based participation from all customer groups in all our major markets,” said Neil Ventura, managing director of Diamdel.
“We also witnessed more repeat participation from our registered customers than at any point since we started auctioning in January 2008 and the number of businesses registering with us continues to rise,’’ he continued in the second quarter auction update.
Overall, 97 percent of the 295 lots offered in the first half of the year sold at their first presentation, with diamonds in the +2ct range proving most popular.
So far this year, 164 different businesses have participated in Diamdel auctions.
