Peter Norton Appointed Canadian Jewellers Association Chairman

The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) appointed Peter Norton as its chairman of the board of directors for 2010-2011. Norton is a second generation jeweler and owns Nortons Jewellers in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

CJA is the Canadian trade association for the jewelry industry formed in 1918. It promotes ethics, awareness, understanding and desirability for Canadian jewelry products.  The association liaises with all levels of government to ensure fair and equitable treatment.

Norton attended George Brown College and graduated from their Jewellery Arts program in 1982.  He then moved back to Charlottetown to run the family owned store that was established in 1974 by his parents, Lois and the late Fred Norton. 

Nortons Jewellers is the past winner of the Eastern Canadian retailer of the year (CGTA), Best Jewellery Store in Atlantic Canada (Atlantic Progress Magazine) and Eastern Canadian Jeweller of the Year (CJG).

Norton has been involved with various groups in the Canadian jewelry industry.  He is the past president of the Canadian Jewellery Group, Canada’s largest buying group, and also served as President of the Atlantic Jewellers Association.  On a local level, he has served with various organizations including on the Boards of the Charlottetown Rotary Club, The Downtown Charlottetown Inc. and Camp Abegweit Children’s Camp.
