AK6 Gets Green Light
November 03, 10(IDEX Online News) - Lucara Diamond Corp. and African Diamonds plc decided to start construction of the AK6 diamond mine in Botswana. Construction will begin over the next couple of months with full commissioning of the new mine targeted for early 2012.
Project development started upon completion of the feasibility study in June. AK6 will be one of the very few new hard rock diamond mines coming into production in the near term to meet the growing strong demand for high quality diamonds, Lucara said in a release.
Lucara is an African focused diamond production company with currently two mines under development: the Mothae mine in Lesotho and the AK6 project. Both projects are known for their large, high-quality, high-value diamonds including Type IIA stones produced from the Mothae mine.
