(IDEX Online News) - Helped by a large number of rough diamonds larger than 10 carats, Rockwell Diamonds’ latest sale averaged $1,244 per carat. The diamond miner sold 5,294.55 carats for $6.6 million.
The goods were from its South African operations, mined from mid-August to mid-September. It sold 58 stones larger than 10 carats and 4 were larger than 50 carats.
They included a 74.43-carat clean, off-white, rounded, octahedral stone from Saxendrift and a 79.13-carat white stone with inclusions of irregular blocky shape with resorption pits mined at Klipdam.
All four of the 50+ carat stones were sold into Rockwell's joint venture agreement with Steinmetz Diamond Group.
“Results from the latest Rockwell diamond sales reinforce the resilience of the diamond market which has continued to show signs of steady recovery since the sharp downturn of early 2009,” said President and CEO John Bristow.
